Public Talks

Marcello regularly gave talks to the public on a wide range of topics relating neuroscience with diverse aspects of society, from the arts to pseudoscience to social and political philosophy. Not many of the presentations have been recorded and preserved. But some have…

In this recording from the Adelaide Festival of Ideas in 2018, Marcello presents “A neuroscientist’s view of Homo sapiens and its world“.

How is the brain, with its unique capabilities, dealing with modern global challenges? A neuroscientific perspective on our biological and cultural evolution will give a more realistic view of the dangers confronting our species. Scientific humanism may be our best chance to adapt for survival instead of failure and perishing.

This is a seminar to the South Australian Neuroscientists by Marcello Costa on unifying the external world (res extensa of Descartes) and our inner world of the mind (res cogitans). Marcello proposes that the brain consists of superimposed internal neural loops and that by portraying graphically the brain activity at the appropriate loops, mental phenomena can be studied as with all other natural phenomena, in a scientific way.

Questa e’ la storia delle esplorazioni di Marcello Costa in tre continenti durante la sua lunga vita nel mondo geografico, scientifico e filosofico.
